Summary
The Bureau of Automotive Repair will host a third public workshop to discuss regulation development for the proposed vehicle safety systems inspection and certification program. The first workshop was held on April 20, 2022, and the second was held on July 21, 2022.
AB 471 (Low, Chapter 372, Statutes of 2021) requires BAR to establish, by January 1, 2024, a vehicle safety systems inspection and certification program for salvage-titled vehicles. At a minimum, the new program will combine and ultimately replace the Bureau’s current lamp and brake inspection and certification programs. This workshop will provide drafts of the proposed regulations and vehicle safety systems inspection manual for continued discussion on the Bureau’s implementation strategy and regulation development process.
