Updated BAR-97 Equipment
The BAR-97 Emissions Inspection System (EIS) specification is being updated in two phases. The first phase of the update was completed on November 1, 2018, when BAR-97 EIS analyzers were transitioned from connecting to the vehicle information database (VID) through a dedicated dial-up phone line to internet-based communication. The second phase of the update integrates data from the Low Pressure Fuel Evaporative Tester (LPFET) into the BAR-97 EIS test record for transmittal to the VID as one communication. The BAR-97 EIS will no longer need a dedicated dial-up phone line. Implementation of the second phase of the BAR-97 EIS specification is underway and will continue into Fall 2019. BAR will continue to send ET Blasts to stations to provide updates on the implementation process.
