BAR Joins Nationwide Safety Recall Outreach Effort

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), roughly 41.6 million vehicles equipped with 56 million defective air bags are under recall. Long-term exposure to high heat and humidity can cause these air bags to explode when deployed. To ensure vehicle owners affected by this recall are properly notified and obtain the necessary repairs, the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) has joined other states in a nationwide consumer outreach effort. In partnership with a public affairs agency contracted by NHTSA, BAR is developing a notice to be sent to California consumers informing them of important steps to follow to ensure their recalled vehicle is repaired. Additional consumer protection outreach efforts aimed at positively influencing safety recall compliance rates in California are underway. BAR is actively working to integrate data provided by Carfax and provide vehicle specific safety recall information to every consumer who receives a Smog Check.
