Biometric enrollment
Before you can begin performing inspections, you must complete the biometric enrollment process at a BAR field office. This allows BAR to establish your important palm data profile.
What to expect during biometric enrollment
During the enrollment process, BAR will:
- Verify your identity
- Review data collection notices
- Notice on Collection of Personal Biometric Information and Its Use: Smog Check / Vehicle Safety Systems
- Biometric Data Collection Consent Statement: Smog Check / Vehicle Safety Systems
- Take your photo
- Scan your palms to establish your biometric palm data profile
The enrollment process takes about 15 minutes.
In rare situations where one or both palms cannot be scanned at the time of enrollment, BAR will make reasonable accommodations based upon specific circumstances.
What to bring with you
Be sure to bring the following items with you to the field office:
Your BAR-issued inspector or technician badge (if received prior to enrollment) and license number. You can print your badge and license online.
A proof of identification document showing your legal name and signature such as a social security card or credit card.
A valid, government-issued photo identification document (other than an inspector badge), such as a driver license, passport, or military identification. The name on your identification must match your legal name. For information on how to update your license, visit Update an inspector or technician license.
