Online License Renewal

Online license renewal is available for Automotive Repair Dealer (ARD) registrations and station licenses that will expire within the next 90 days or have not been expired for more than one year, and Smog Check Inspector and Smog Check Repair Technician licenses that will expire within the next 150 days or have not been expired for more than one year. Please select the appropriate license type to begin the online renewal process.

Important Information – Please Read

  • Be sure to enter the correct license number. Submitting a renewal payment with incorrect information will delay the processing of the license renewal. To verify your license information, use the License Search web page.
  • Report a name or address change online (automotive repair dealers / inspectors and technicians). Use the License Search web page to verify the changes have been made before attempting to submit an online license renewal payment.

NOTE: Name and address change requests do not extend a license expiration date.

  • Payments for automotive repair dealer and station licenses must be submitted within 90 days of the license expiration date. Payments received more than 90 days in advance of the expiration date will be refunded and the license will not be renewed.
  • Payments for Smog Check inspector and Smog Check repair technician licenses must be submitted within 150 days of the license expiration date. Payments received more than 150 days in advance of the expiration date will be refunded and the license will not be renewed.
  • If you recently mailed a license renewal payment, please allow sufficient processing time (2-4 weeks) before submitting a second payment using the online license renewal payment system. If you proceed with submitting a second renewal payment, be advised that refund processing time is approximately 4-8 weeks.
  • After you make an online license renewal payment, no further action is necessary. BAR will verify that all renewal requirements have been met and the payment has been processed. If additional information is needed to process your renewal, you will be notified.

The renewed license will be sent to the address of record and can be printed online.
